The patterns formed by the droplets replicate the skies of classic paintings by various artists who created cloud studies or whose cloudy skies are a distinguishing feature. The representation corresponds to a digitized image of low resolution, at 7 dots per inch \u2013 here 7 drops per inch. The water is sufficiently thickened so that it doesn't run or evaporate during the exposure.
